Project Description
A New View Painting completed a cottage exterior painting project for two historic cottages located within the Colorado Chautauqua Association in Boulder, CO. The work included washing, prepping, priming, and repainting the exterior body and trim of Cottage 3 and Cottage 3A.
Each cottage received its own historic color scheme using Sherwin-Williams Duration Exterior: Cottage 3 featured Perfect Greige with Dover White trim, while Cottage 3A received Rookwood Sash Green with Roycroft Mist Gray trim. The project took one week and totaled $12,000. Many property owners also refresh indoor areas afterward, which often leads to questions about bedroom painting and bathroom painting.
Background / Story:
The Colorado Chautauqua Association maintains a collection of treasured historic buildings, and A New View Painting has supported their restoration work for nearly 20 years. Over that time, the team has handled several landmark projects, including the Chautauqua Dining Hall and The Auditorium. For this commercial exterior painting project, the association wanted to update two cottages that were ready for a noticeable change. Instead of the long-used brown-and-yellow scheme, they selected colors inspired by early Chautauqua history to give the cottages a more authentic, revitalized appearance.
Because these buildings are older, they have years of wear that require detailed preparation. The team approached the project with the same level of care used on previous historic structures, taking time to repair problem areas before painting. Once the new colors were applied, the cottages gave that part of the property a fresh, historically aligned look.
Scope of Services:

- Cottage 3A: Rookwood Sash Green (Body) + Roycroft Mist Gray (Trim)
Results:
After completion, both cottages stood out with a refreshed look that better fit the historic setting around Chautauqua Park. The new colors highlighted the cottages’ original design and created a more inviting appearance for visitors. The prep work helped tighten aging boards and improve the overall condition of the structures. The association shared positive feedback about how the updated colors brought more life to that part of the property and aligned with the historic palette they wanted to celebrate. The project added another successful entry to the long partnership between A New View Painting and the Colorado Chautauqua Association.
