A New View Painting was thrilled to partner with Envision Energy in Boulder, CO, for their office renovation project. Over the course of five days, we transformed the 8th-floor entryway of a historic building, combining sleek commercial office painting with the installation of a custom wood slat wall. With Sherwin-Williams Iron Ore on the walls and a carefully crafted white oak slat wall, we delivered a modern, polished look that perfectly matched Envision Energy’s vision for their office space.

Background/Story:

Envision Energy needed to update its entryway to create a contemporary, stylish first impression for its downtown Boulder office. Kristy, the office manager, reached out to us after we’d previously worked together on her home projects. She wanted a clean, modern design to give the space a fresh feel, while keeping the building’s charm intact. We were excited to take on this challenge!

After discussing various options for the slat wall, we chose white oak for its smooth, elegant look that avoided the orange/red hues of traditional red oak. Sourcing the oak from Paxton Hardwoods in Denver, we began fabricating the slats, sanding them, and finishing them with a satin polyurethane coat to maintain a subtle sheen that complemented the modern vibe of the space.

The project wasn’t without its challenges, especially considering the 8th-floor location and the bustling office environment. We had to carefully navigate the logistics of transporting tools and materials, but with some clever planning (and the help of my son Josh!), we managed to get everything up to the worksite without a hitch.

Scope of Services:

• Commercial Office Painting: We applied Sherwin-Williams Iron Ore as the base color on the walls, followed by two coats of Cashmere Eggshell, creating a sophisticated backdrop for the slat wall.
• Wood Slat Fabrication: We sourced 1×6 white oak planks, cutting them into 1×2 slats, sanding them smooth, and finishing them with a satin polycrylic for a modern, low-gloss look.
• Slat Wall Installation: Using a combination of adhesive and finish nails, we installed 160 slats with precise spacing to achieve a sleek and uniform look.
• Project Management: Our team ensured a smooth workflow, from sourcing materials to installation, with minimal disruption to the office environment.

The transformation was a success! Envision Energy’s office now features a sophisticated and modern entryway that aligns perfectly with their brand. Kristy was thrilled with the outcome, particularly with the way the slat wall tied everything together. The company is even planning to install a logo sign over one area of the slat wall to further personalize the space.
