TWP 1500 Deck Staining for Two Boulder Hardwood Decks

Project Description

This TWP 1500 Deck Staining project was completed by A New View Painting for two exterior decks in Boulder, CO. The one-day project focused on restoring tropical hardwood decking after much of the previous finish had worn away.

Rather than pressure washing the decks, the team sanded the surfaces to remove the remaining coating and expose the wood. The decks were then finished with TWP 1500 Series Oil-Based Semi-Transparent Stain.

The full deck staining project was completed for approximately $2,900.

Background/Story

Carol had previously hired A New View Painting for interior and exterior work and returned when her decks needed attention. The decks were about four years old, and most of the builder-applied finish had worn away.

Because the decking was a dense tropical hardwood, the team recommended one properly applied coat rather than two. This reduced the risk of excess stain sitting on the surface instead of absorbing into the wood.

Scope of Services

Two Exterior Decks: Both tropical hardwood decks were included in the restoration project.
Deck Sanding: Existing finish was removed by sanding rather than pressure washing.
Bare Wood Preparation: Sanding exposed the wood surface before stain application.
Deck Staining: TWP 1500 Series oil-based semi-transparent stain was applied to both decks.
Single-Coat Application: One coat was used because the dense hardwood did not require additional stain buildup.
Excess Stain Removal: Remaining stain was wiped from the surface after application to prevent overapplication.
Project Completion: Both decks were sanded and stained in one day.

Results
