Project Description

This window trim replacement project focused on repairing and upgrading 16 windows on a 3,000 sq ft home in Erie, CO. The existing trim had started to fail, leading to visible damage and areas where water had worked its way in.

All damaged trim boards were removed and replaced with new LP Smart Trim. After installation, every joint was sealed with high-quality caulk to help protect the home from future moisture issues.

Once repairs were complete, the trim was painted using Sherwin-Williams Duration Exterior Satin. The final step included touch-up painting around the siding to create a clean and finished look.

Background Story:

This exterior painting project goes back several years. When A New View Painting first worked on this home, a design issue with the window trim was pointed out during the original estimate.

The trim detail included a horizontal piece that acted like a shelf, allowing water, snow, and ice to sit and slowly cause damage. At the time, the homeowner chose to leave it in place.

Years later, that exact issue showed up. Water had worked behind the trim and caused significant damage to the surrounding boards. The good news was that the problem was caught before it reached deeper into the structure.

This time, the goal was not just to repair the damage, but to fix the design so it would not happen again.

Scope of Services:

  • Window Trim Replacement: All damaged trim around 16 windows was removed and replaced with full-length trim boards.
  • Exterior Trim Repair: Rotted and deteriorated areas were addressed before installing new materials.
  • Caulking and Sealing: All joints were sealed using Sherwin-Williams Maxflex caulk to help protect against moisture.
  • Trim Painting and Touch Ups: Trim was painted with two coats, and surrounding siding was touched up for a clean finish.

Project Cost:

Approximately $6,400 for trim replacement, repairs, and repainting.

Results:

After two days, the home was back in solid condition. The new trim not only improved the look of the windows but also removed the design issue that caused the damage in the first place.

The updated trim now allows water to move away instead of collecting around the windows. This window trim replacement project shows how the right repair can improve both appearance and long-term performance.

If you are seeing signs of damage around your windows, it may be time to take a closer look. A proper window trim replacement can fix the problem and help protect your home from future issues.
